Text handwritten by the artist onto each photograph:
[Panel 1] Patrick X. 16th Sleeper. Thursday, April 5, 1979. 8:30 pm. Usually he sleeps very little, he smokes a cigarette before going to bed and turns the radio on.
[Panel 2] 9 pm: Before leaving him I show him how to turn the radio on.
[Panel 3] 10 pm: He said he liked my bed.
[Panel 4] 11 pm: He came because he never would have imagined such a situation.
[Panel 5] Midnight: First, he thought that the thing was going to become an orgy.
[Panel 6] 1 am: Gerard, the owner of the bakery told him, “if you are interested, go ahead.”
[Panel 7] 2 am: He wanted to know if I was doing this in order to meet people.
[Panel 8] 2:30 am: I wake him up by calling him by his name. He turns towards me, opens his eyes, says nothing. I warn him of the imminent arrival of J. Loup Forain, his successor.
[Text Panel] Patrick X, sixteenth sleeper I don’t know him. I go to a bakery in Montparnasse in the hopes of finding a few day sleepers. Patrick X agrees to come from Thursday April 5th at 8pm to Friday April 6th at 2:30am. He waits for Fabrice Luchini to leave the room before installing himself. He gets into bed without changing the sheets. He agrees to answer my questions. He tells me he came because he thought it had to do with an orgy. He isn’t sorry about the way things turned out. He falls asleep around 9pm, a peaceful sleep. At 2:30am I wake him up with a cup of coffee. He gets up and gets dressed to meet Jean-Loup Forain who’s next in line. They don’t know each other. They exchange a brief hello and separate just as quickly. At 3 in the morning I accompany him by car to his place of work. He offers me croissants. I thank him for having come.
